TYPE FACE & FONT
Any standard type face is acceptable; font size should be 12.
MARGINS
The margins on the left side of all pages must be 1.5 inches. Top, bottom and right margins must be 1 inch. All photographs, charts, tables, graphs, drawings, etc. must fit within these specified margins.
SPACING
Double Space all text. Long quotations, footnotes, and endnotes may be single-spaced.
TABLES AND FIGURES
If you use tables, figures, and/or illustrations, you must include an itemized/numbered list of those tables, figures, or illustrations in the front matter. Please separate these lists on different pages.
TITLE PAGE
The title page must contain the following information: Title, Name, Degree, Department, University Name, Month and Year of Graduation. See the sample title page.
TYPED SIGNATURE SHEET
A duplicate approval form, which is obtained from the website: Typed Signature Sheet, must be electronically inserted as the second page of your PDF document. These forms should only have the typed names of your committee, not signatures. Turn in the forms (with the actual signatures) to Graduate Studies.
ABSTRACT
Dissertation abstracts must not exceed 350 words. See the sample abstract.
REFERENCES/BIBLIOGRAPHY
You must include a complete bibliography at the end of the paper that includes all works cited.
PAGINATION
The numbering of pages should begin with the table of contents (page number one).
PUBLISHING
It is a requirement of Case Western Reserve University to publish all doctoral dissertations through UMI/ProQuest. Please note that electronic dissertations will be submitted to UMI/ProQuest on behalf of CWRU by OhioLink. The graduation application packet contains a form, which releases the dissertation to UMI/ProQuest for publishing and microfilming. This form must be received by the School of Graduate Studies before the dissertation can be released to OhioLink and UMI/ProQuest.
GRADUATION FEES
All Ph.D. students graduating from Case Western Reserve University are assessed a graduation fee. The fee covers the cost of the expense to UMI/ProQuest for publishing and microfilming your dissertation. Click on this link to view the current amount of the graduation fee.
COPYRIGHTS
Authorship automatically and implicitly confers a copyright to the author, without any additional fee. However, a copyright can be registered with the Library of Congress Copyright Office, which will provide additional legal protections for your rights regarding your dissertation, for an additional fee. Upon request via completion of the appropriate form, UMI/ProQuest will file a copyright application for students who choose to register their copyright. Copyright registration is available only at the time the dissertation is uploaded from School of Graduate Studies' website. The cost of filing the copyright application is currently $45.00. Only money orders and certified checks are acceptable (payable to: Proquest).See the copyright sample
BOUND COPIES:
Bound copies of the dissertation may be ordered directly from UMI. You may also have a print-out bound through the university bookstore.
