WISER Mentoring

Join the Mentoring Program with WISER Women in Science &
Engineering Roundtable

What do mentors/mentees do?
Mentors/mentees will be paired with a student in a different class, but in a similar major or field of study. You’ll get to know a student with similar interests and offer support or learn from their experience.
You’ll attend a meeting with the Associate Director and your mentor/mentee in September or October to set goals. Mentors will also attend a training and information session during this time.
You’ll meet once per month with your mentor/mentee during the academic year to get advice, support, discuss classes, majors, career paths, or go to events together.

Events and Activities:

  • Each month, an event or activity is planned for WISER members. These activities are designed to stimulate discussion and thought about some of the issues related to being a woman in science, to help build skills for success in the university and beyond, and to build a community of women in the sciences and engineering at Case. Activities this semester included:

    • Activities Selection – Meetings with WISER members to discover what this year’s members most wanted to see, so that events and activities could be planned based on interest.

    • Panel Discussion – Women faculty and professionals in multiple science and engineering disciplines discussed their career paths, the choices and events that led to their current careers, and advice for women entering similar fields.

    • Networking Reception – Women students, alumni, faculty, and professionals came together as part of “Women in Leadership Week” to meet one another and discuss work in a variety of fields.

    • Study Break – The WISER room  (Sears 545) is opened for a community gathering during the week before exams, complete with healthy and decadent snacks, and stress relief activities.

See the Center for Women Calendar for upcoming events.

WISER Lounge - Sears 545:

WISER students are able to gather and meet in their own WISER room. The room is centrally located on campus, and set up for conversation, napping, and working. It also has computers and a printer available specifically for student use.

SAGES:

We recommend that WISER students apply to participate in the SAGES program, which is an alternative approach to satisfy the university's General Education Requirement. The SAGES program provides smaller classes and more personalized advising and is another excellent way to get more out of your CWRU education.

WISER cannot guarantee admittance to SAGES, but we strongly recommend that you apply.
You can learn more about the program at http://www.cwru.edu/sages
