- Chapter I: Introduction (page 1)
- The introduction includes a brief history of CWRU, a description of the self-study process, and review of the major organizational changes made at the university since 1985. It also includes the response to the 1985 NCA evaluation.
- Chapter II: Institutional Governance (page 7)
- Chapter II reviews the mechanisms for institutional governance at all levels: trustees, administration, faculty, students, and volunteers.
- Chapter III: Mission and Goals (page 10)
- Chapter III discusses the university's new statement of mission, character, and priorities, with an evaluation of the progress toward CWRU's institutional goals for the period 1990 to 1995.
- Chapter IV: Academic Programs and Resources (page 20)
- Chapter IV discusses all aspects of the university's academic programs, services, and resources: its faculty, students, major academic units, and academic support services and facilities. Also included are discussions of general education and research, reviewed more fully in the special emphasis section, Chapter VI.
- Chapter V: Institutional Resources and Services (page 58)
- Chapter V provides an overview of the university's non-academic units, resources, and services. These include financial and physical resources, human resources, development and alumni affairs, public affairs, and health affairs.
- Chapter VI: Areas of Special Emphasis (page 67)
- Four areas were chosen for special emphasis: undergraduate education, research, the electronic learning environment, and continuing education. Chapter VI explains why these four areas were selected for special study, with a summary of issues and excerpts from each report. The full special emphasis reports are included in a separate volume as appendices.
- Chapter VII: Assessment (page 82)
- Chapter VII discusses current activities in assessment of student achievement, teaching, and faculty research and scholarship. Included are a timetable and preliminary framework for a comprehensive assessment plan.
- Chapter VIII: Conclusion (page 93)
- The Steering Committee's conclusion offers its 'Agenda for Learning,' building on the work of the four special emphasis subcommittees. Chapter VIII also addresses the NCA General Institutional Requirements and Criteria for Accreditation.
