Position Objective
The Vice Provost for Innovation plays a pivotal role in advancing CWRU’s ability to leverage the capabilities and creative possibilities of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies and approaches that enhance our educational offerings and programs. This role will provide leadership on elevating the student academic experience through innovative practices ranging from hands-on learning, problem-solving and critical thinking in an AI-world. Reporting to the Provost, this position carries broad responsibilities aimed at driving educational excellence, innovation, interdisciplinary approaches, and continuous evolution across all academic levels.
The Vice Provost is a member of the Provost’s Advisory Council (PAC).
This position requires 50-75% effort (internal search) and requires status as a full professor at Case Western Reserve University.
Essential Functions
- Strategic Leadership:
- Actively contribute to operationalizing and advancing the university’s Artificial Intelligence strategies (and other emerging technologies) related to educational excellence and innovation as well as the use of these technologies in research and scholarship.
- Collaborate closely with the Provost leadership team, Faculty Senate leadership, and Academic Deans to develop novel programs and delivery methods that allow CWRU to be first-in-class in the ethical use and implementation of AI.
- Identify and implement strategic opportunities across schools and colleges to advance the educational vision, including promoting interdisciplinary opportunities and cross-school collaboration.
- Identify other educational innovations with tools not yet developed or envisioned, building the Future of Learning at CWRU.
- Educational Innovation:
- Lead efforts to translate the educational vision for AI into specific innovative practices across the university’s learning environments.
- Build teams and partners in new areas of innovation for the institution that builds on strengths around learning technologies.
- Advance on-line offerings as appropriate with respect to requests from the College and Schools
- Collaborate with leaders in the Provost’s Office to advance the success of the university AI and other innovation-related initiatives.
- Develop programming assessments and evaluate the overall success in advancing the CWRU mission in areas of educational innovation and the ethical adoption of AI technologies. Adjust strategies to enhance effectiveness of programs, collaborations and partnerships.

Contacts
Department: Regular contact with the Provost and other professionals in the office.
University: Regular contact with the deans, senior administrators in the schools, and faculty as well as units within [U]Tech.
External: Periodic contact with administrators at other institutions. Frequent contact with members of the community.
Students: Occasional contact with students.
Qualifications
Experience: This position is open to CWRU tenured faculty members holding the rank of Full Professor with a strong track record of collaborative leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Education/Licensing: A terminal degree (e.g. MD, PhD, EdD) is required.
