The men’s and women’s swim team took on Wittenberg at home this past weekend. The men flew past the Tigers, winning 127-100, while the women were unable to edge their opponents, falling by the final score of 157-84.
The women began the meet with a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay by freshmen Lindsey Stahl, Crystal Du, and Stephanie Davis, and junior Katie Byrne. The men showed that they planned to dominate from start to finish as they began with first and third place finishes in the same event. The first place finish came at the hands of sophomores Bobby Malinoski, Pat Rodjom, and Damon Bosetti and junior Eric Frohmader. Sophomore Justin Daggett, junior John Keltz, freshman Sladewski, and sophomore Dave Loomis swam for the third-place team.
Senior Alicia Kendig scorched the competition, finishing first in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:20.69, 30 seconds before her next closest competitor. The men followed Kendig’s lead as junior Matt Hathorn finished first with a time of 10:48.73.
Hannah Webber finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and on the men’s side, Daggett, senior David Whitbeck, and Malinoski finished first, second, and fourth in the event. The men dominated the 50-yard freestyle with sophomore Damon Bosetti, Erickson, and junior Kevin Day occupying the top three spots. Senior Liz Badziong came back strong for the women, finishing second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.42 and was closely followed by fellow senior Kristen Prijatel, who crossed in 2:18.79. The men’s 200-yard IM found senior Andrew Detwiler and sophomore Dave Loomis occupying the third and fourth positions, respectively.
Senior Lindsey Tyson finished first in the one-meter diving competition, giving the Spartans some much-needed points. Sophomore Robert Sigal showed off his skill, finishing in second for the men in the same event.
Du showed what she could do, finishing second in the women’s 100-yard butterfly, while Frohmader and Whitbeck dominated the men’s event by taking the top two positions.
Kendig and Prijatel took care of business in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, finishing first and third respectively. Day and Erickson also racked up some needed points for the men with second and third place finishes.
Webber finished third in the 100-yard backstroke, while freshman Jonathon Henkel proved that he was mature beyond his years, finishing first in the men’s event, followed by Malinoski in fourth. Badziong showed her versatility with a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. On the men’s side, sophomore’s Daggett and Loomis sat atop the competition, finishing first and second in the men’s 500-yard freestyle.
Tyson attempted to show Wittenberg how it was done as she led Case to a first place finish in the women’s 3-meter diving competition. Sigal kept up with the competition and finished second in the men’s 3-meter. Du continued to swim strong with a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed by Becky Davis in fourth and freshman Carrie Stoila in fifth.
Rodjom and Keltz sandwiched the competition, finishing first and third in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke. The women finished strong in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a third place finish by the team of Leah Pentelnik, Camilla Cullis, Laura Paszkowski, and Becky Davis.
The men and women used this meet as a stepping stone as they prepare to gear up for the UAA championships at Emory University in Atlanta in two weeks.
