Greek Update

Compiled by Jen Von Glahn

“Bid for Your Heart” date auction is tomorrow

For the fourth consecutive year, Alpha Phi Fraternity will support the Alpha Phi Foundation with a “Bid for Your Heart” event. The annual date auction will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in Schmitt Auditorium.

Last year over $3000 was raised for Cardiac Care, a company that provides support and research for heart disease. This year’s goal is $4000. The Alpha Phi Foundation, which delegates the money, was established in 1956 and is one of the oldest Greek foundations.

“Each year, participation keeps growing, so we believe we have a very good chance to reach our goal,” said Beth Russo, vice president of Marketing and director of Philanthropy for the event.

Former Alpha Phi president Colleen McFadden concurred. “I have participated since the event’s inception, and we encourage all Greeks in the university community to get involved,” she said. “With their help we can top last year’s effort.”

Seventeen Case students have volunteered to be auctioned off for dates. Dates include dinner and entertainment from a variety of local establishments such as Guarino’s and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tickets are $5 at the door.

Greek grade report

The Fall 2003 semester grades have been released by the Greek Life Office. Each semester, chapter GPAs are calculated for all members, actives, and new members. The report shows that 65 percent of all Greeks have a GPA of over 3.0.

This year the all-fraternity average was 3.14, with Sigma Nu holding the highest all-member GPA at 3.496. They also held the highest new member average for the fraternities with a 3.562. The highest actives average went to Phi Kappa Tau with a 3.487.

The all-sorority average was 3.32. This is also last semester’s Case women’s average. The highest all-member GPA went to Phi Mu, with a 3.515; they also held the highest actives GPA at 3.531. Delta Gamma earned the highest new member GPA with a 3.396.
