The meeting began with mention of the book drive and distribution of fliers
about it. A report was given about the meeting of some members of GSS with
Pres. David Auston; items addressed were equity of funding, taxation, the
network, and improving relations with the community.

The activities committee informed us that we collected 369 lbs. of food
during the recent canned food drive, and about 200 people attended the party
on 12 November, donating 224 lbs. of food. Future activities may include
a clothing drive and a "service day"; it was also suggested to have another
canned food drive in January --- after all those people hoarding food realize
they don't need it!

The NAGPS conference held from 17-21 November was an opportunity for our
representatives to discuss some of our concerns with other graduate students.
One idea that received a fair amount of discussion was the possibility of
implementing a "buddy system" to help new international students adapt to the
culture and the area. Taxation and equity of funding were other issues
discussed.

It was announced that the interim VP for information services would be James
Barker, and a brief description of his background was given. The Women's
Coalition is planning a symposium this April; GSS may have some involvement
with this.

There is currently a surplus of about $900 for the V-fund; we decided to
make this money available (but not necessarily to award all of it) to Spring
applicants. In other news, the graduate studies committee is looking at a
draft of the new General Bulletin, where the issue of the five-year time
limit has been raised; some effort is being made to improve conditions at
Leutner Commons; some investigation is being done with regard to issues of
academic honesty at the undergraduate level; the people at Campus News were
not receptive to our request for distribution to graduate students, citing
cost; Dan Kerr will be the chair of an ad-hoc committee on funding issues.
