McCoy, Adam Majewski, Tina Smith, Jennifer Skidmore, David Burks (guest),

Vanik, Andre Mardzsan, Heather Kichner, Eric Pacuit

2. After the meeting was called to order a dicussion of a current motion to
oppose a university-wide plus/minus grading system ensued. USG has already
adopted the motion. David Burks (USG president elect) was present for the
purpose of the discussion. Math Senator Rich Charigno spoke up in favor of
the motion. Following further discussion, a motion passed (11-0) to
conduct a vote by e-mail by the end of next week.

3. Officer elections: The following officers were voted in for terms
beginning September 1, 1999:

            President - Adam Majewski
            Vice President - Tina Smith
            Corresponding Secretary - John Martin
            Treasurer - Tom Hund

The position of Recording Secretary is currently unfilled, and a motion
passed (11-0) to table the election until the first meeting in September.
The President of GSS is granted the individual ability to draft someone
willing to be Recoding Secretary.

4. Committee Reports

V-Fund - Adam Majewski reported that $994.00 of the $1000 set aside to
allocate this semester has been awarded to 13 applicants. The V-Fund
Committee met 3/16/99 to review 25 applications, 4 of which did not meet
V-fund requirements. A committee vote designates that unclaimed or surplus
funds roll over into the following semester's allocations.

Presidential Search - John Martin reported that the new President, David
Austin, will take over his post near May's end.

NAGPS - Tom Hund reported on the success of the Midwest Regional Conference
which took place in Bloomington (Indiana Univ.) from March 26-28, 1999.

Diekhoff - Heather Kichner reported that the committee is currently
conducting interviews and a decision on the winners will be reached in the
next two weeks

Activities - Any women interested in playing softball should contact
Danielle Freudenheim at daf5. GSS is sponsoring the main stage at
SpringFest on April 24, 1999.

Grad Studies - Dean Eisen reported that the committee is continuing
discussion of Post-doc policies, with emphasis on electronic submission
procedures for theses/dissertations. This electronic process would provide
greater convenience, availability and flexibility for the inclusion of
other mediums for presentation... Dean Eisen also asked for ushers for the
upcoming Graduate Commencement, May 16 at the Temple next to Mt. Sinai.
Help is needed with line-up and general ushering-of-guests duties. A
T-shirt comes free with your volunteered assistance.

Respectfully submitted,
Heather J. Kichner
GSS Recording Secretary
