The McNichols’ gift will support the McNichols Fellowship that assists graduate students studying in TiME’s master of engineering and management program. In addition, a dedication ceremony was held to dedicate the new McNichols TiME Suite located in Nord Hall, administrative home of the Case School of Engineering.

Gerald R. “Mac” McNichols graduated from the former Case Institute of Technology (now the Case School of Engineering) in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in management science. He earned his master’s degree in operations research at the University of Pennsylvania in 1966 and a doctorate in science/engineering and operations research from George Washington University in 1976. McNichols “helps entrepreneurs grow” through consulting and as a private angel investor and philanthropist with more than 35 years of experience in management and consulting. He co-founded the highly successful company Management Consulting and Research Inc. with his wife, Paula.

Paula Austin McNichols also graduated from the Case Institute of Technology in 1965 with a degree in management science. She earned an master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1968. Paula McNichols served as treasurer, chief financial officer and corporate secretary of Management Consulting and Research Inc.

Presently the McNichols serve as officers of The Gerald and Paula McNichols Family Foundation, based in Middleburg, Va. Their daughter, Melissa Cardon, is an assistant professor of marketing and policy studies at Case’s Weatherhead School of Management. They have established several scholarships at the university and the McNichols Fellowship at TiME.

The Institute for Management and Engineering (TiME) at Case, formerly known as The Institute for the Integration of Management and Engineering, brings together the resources of the Case School of Engineering and Weatherhead School of Management. TiME is uniquely positioned to help both students and technology-based companies learn how to integrate engineering and management to achieve superior organizational performance. TiME’s mission is to foster the integration of these disciplines through academic programs, technology transfer and scholarly research. The institute offers a master’s degree in management and engineering and manages the $100,000 CASE Business Launch Competition each spring.

“We are grateful to Mac and Paula McNichols for their generosity and mentorship to our students,” said Dale Flowers, co-director of TiME and associate professor of operations at Weatherhead. “Because of the McNichols Fellowship, our students are benefitting from Mac and Paula’s advice and leadership. We’re confident that businesses around the country will hire our TiME graduates and give them top salaries.”
