Pedro L. Delgado, Douglas D. Bond Professor
and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry has formally
announced that he will be leaving University Hospitals
of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University at the
end of March 2005. He has accepted the position of Chair
of the Department of Psychiatry and Associate Dean for
Faculty Development at the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio. The position offers him
an opportunity to be closer to his family as well as to
assume new responsibilities and challenges. Dr. Delgado
stated, "It is with mixed emotions that my family and
I leave Cleveland. University Hospitals of Cleveland,
CASE, and this community have been exceptionally good
to us and we are all much the better for the experience.
While leaving is hard, it is good to know that the Department
of Psychiatry will be in able hands and the Department
is stronger than it was 5 years ago."
Robert Ronis, MD, MPH has agreed to serve
as an interim Chairman while the process of initiating
a national search is planned and completed. This will
insure continuity across all the many important projects
that are underway. According to Dr. Delgado the Department
is in good financial shape and the leadership at both
CASE and University Hospitals has high aspirations for
Psychiatry.
