Addiction Recovery Services Receives $1 Million Donation

CLEVELAND: An anonymous $1 million donation to the newly-founded Addiction Recovery Services (ARS) program at University Hospitals of Cleveland promises to further strengthen the outpatient clinical service for adults struggling with chemical dependency. Launched 10 months ago by the Department of Psychiatry, ARS integrates proven research with traditional principles of recovery to address patient problems and initiate the process of healing.

“University Hospitals Health System is committed to developing a strong clinical and researchbased program in addiction psychiatry and this significant gift will help us continue to propel the program’s growth,” says Margaret Kotz, D.O., Medical Director of ARS. “This donation will provide ARS with the ability to build upon our commitment to excellence by utilizing a holistic treatment approach tailored to meet individual patient needs.”

ARS services include chemical dependency evaluation, ambulatory detoxification, partial (day) hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, individual counseling, group therapy, medical consultation, patient and family education, special relapse prevention services and aftercare. Since founding ARS, Dr. Kotz has recruited a staff of seven clinicians and has initiated various research studies on the medical management of bipolar disorder accompanied by substance use disorders.

The ARS donation will support plans to establish complementary programs with the arts and meditative practices. The funds will also support community awareness initiatives.

Dr. Kotz brings more than 20 years of experience in addiction treatment to ARS and holds certification in addiction psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She also is certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) by the MRO Certification Council. ARS clinicians are a team of licensed chemical dependency counselors and advanced practice nurses.
