Application Information
Thank you for your interest in Pathology Residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. You may enjoy getting information about our community, University Circle, from their web site.
Pathology residencies nationwide have chosen to use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges for applications for the July, 2005 class. More information about ERAS is available from the AAMC site. Other forms of application will not be considered.
Graduates of Foreign Medical Schools must have valid certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates before application. University Hospitals of Cleveland sponsors non-US residents for J-1 visa status.
Our program strives to train residents who are distinguished by their excellent fund of recent medical knowledge, effective communication skills, and commitment to a career in pathology. Among qualifications that are considered in evaluating an application are medical school transcripts, letters of recommendation, postgraduate activities and USMLE Board scores. Because many criteria are considered, it is not possible to give a meaningful "cutoff" for Board scores alone. We require that applicants provide at least two letters of recommendation, in addition to an official Dean's Letter.
Approximately forty candidates are invited for interview each year to fill five PGY-1 positions. The Residency Committee evaluates all of the interviewed candidates to select the incoming class. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis, so applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible to avoid the interview schedule filling before the application is received. In previous years, the interview schedule has filled by January of the year in which training is to begin.
Again, I thank you for your interest and wish you the best of luck in your search for a residency position.
