Faculty Opportunities

Director, Center for Immunology

The Director will lead the new Center for Immunology with responsibility to expand the existing Immunology research program in the Department of Pathology and lead interdepartmental research and education programs in Immunology. A substantial start-up package will be provided for the Director's laboratory, and the Director will have responsibility to lead recruitment of 3-4 additional faculty positions supported by start-up packages.

The current Immunology program's strengths include fundamental immunology (innate immunity, signaling, MHC molecules, APCs, T cell biology), immunology of infectious diseases (particularly tuberculosis and HIV), autoimmunity (e.g. IBD) and other topics. Annual research funding in areas related to infectious disease immunology, pathogenesis and biology exceeds $100M at CWRU and affiliated institutions. Research training is focused on the Immunology Training Program (http://www.case.edu/med/pathology/training/itp.html).

Candidates should be established scientists (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) with international stature and successful and rigorous research programs. Leadership experience and a successful track record as a scientific mentor are desired. Appointment as Professor with tenure is anticipated.

Immunology Faculty Position

The Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University is recruiting faculty to expand its immunology research program. Faculty candidates will be considered in all areas of Immunology and related areas of infectious diseases and host defense. The position will be supported by a substantial start-up package and opportunity to participate in the interdepartmental Immunology Training Program (http://www.case.edu/med/pathology/training/itp.html). Candidates should have a substantial trajectory toward developing a rigorous, externally-funded immunology research program. The anticipated appointment is as Assistant Professor, tenure track (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.).

Director of Surgical Pathology

The Department of Pathology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine seeks an academic surgical pathologist to serve as Director of Surgical Pathology. Applicants should be board-certified in AP or AP/CP, have strong general surgical pathology skills with specialty expertise and established track record in one or more areas of academic surgical pathology, and be qualified for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Ohio. The Director will supervise faculty in Surgical Pathology, organize service activities, assess staffing needs, and participate in faculty recruitment, faculty development and mentoring, quality assurance activities, and planning for departmental space and equipment. The Director will participate in education of residents, fellows and medical students. The Director will be encouraged and supported to develop a research program and foster research activities of faculty, residents and fellows in clinical and translational areas related to Surgical Pathology.

The 964-bed UH Case Medical Center includes University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, the NCI-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and University Hospitals MacDonald Women's Hospital. The Department of Pathology has an annual total of ~34,000 surgical specimens, 10,000 dermatopathology specimens and 50,000 cytology specimens.

Community Pathologist

There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral trainee. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and have recently been awarded a PhD or MD/PhD in basic research relevant to any aspect of cancer biology, for example genetics or cell signaling. Standard NIH stipend levels apply but outstanding candidates will be considered for the position of Cancer Center Scholar with significant stipend supplementation.
