Yong is working on HIV recombination and HIV drug resistance. He is trying to get ENV or GAG recombinants of HIV-1 by dual infection, put them into pNL4-3 to produce recombined HIV-1 isolates, and study their fitness with parental isolates. He is also studying the inhibition of SiRNA on the replication of HIV-1. Meanwhile, he is also participating in vaccine development and the study of drug resistance in one HIV-1 isolate which was found to be resistant to Nevirapine.
