Fulbright Alumni Initiatives Award Case Western Reserve University and Birzeit University Nahida H. Gordon, Principal Investigator The Alumni Initiatives Awards (AIA) program was established by The United States Department of State, which sponsors the Fulbright Senior Scholar Program, the Institute of International Education (IIE) and its affiliate, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). The objective of the AIA program is to provide institutional grants to Fulbright alumni to develop innovative projects that will foster institutionally supported linkages and sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships between the Fulbright scholar’s home and host institutions. Further, these awards provide Fulbright Senior Scholar Alumni the opportunity to sustain and expand contacts and partnerships initiated as a result of their Fulbright experiences abroad. Awards are jointly funded by the Department of State and the Fulbright Legacy Fund, a private endowment established by IIE. Nahida H. Gordon, Ph.D., Professor of Bioethics,
is the principal investigator of the AIA award program at CWRU. Professor
Gordon was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at Birzeit University, the Palestinian
territory, in 1997. In the spirit of the AIA program, Dr. Gordon will
work to foster linkages between CWRU faculty and Birzeit University faculty.
Of interest to this program are projects such as joint curriculum development
efforts; distance learning innovations; faculty and student exchanges;
publication of a joint print or electronic journal; summer seminars or
institutes for students, faculty or administrators; faculty/administrator
training; ongoing collaborative research; and other activities that will
support sustainable institutional linkages and foster the internationalization
of the respective campuses. |
