ABOUT YPS

Youth Philanthropy and Service (YPS) is a program of the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Case Western Reserve University. The mission of YPS, "to develop and promote leadership and personal involvement by youth in the giving of time, treasure, and talent to their community," is in line with the Mandel Center's aspiration to promote leadership development and education in the nonprofit sector. YPS began in 1996 by providing resources to K-12 educators on service learning. In 2001, YPS began providing these services to community-based organizations as well.

YPS provides resources and support for adults implementing K-12 youth service and philanthropy programs within their schools and organizations. These services fall into three categories:

  • Training and Networking
YPS provides training and development for K-12 educators and community-based service coordinators.
  • Knowledge Dissemination
YPS distributes several electronic publications including the YPS Bulletin, a quarterly newsletter, and Alerts on a variety of youth service topics. YPS also produces publications on youth service issues in Northeast Ohio.
  • Professional Support
YPS offers direct professional support through one-on-one consultations, presentations, and customized training. Many of these services are offered at no cost.
