THOUGHTS FROM THE FELLOWS
The following are quotes from fellows as they share their thoughts about the
fellowship residencies and their experiences with coaching, as well as general
comments.
-
"I continue to believe in myself and the work that I do. I can call
someone who can empathize and understand without judgment... the greatest
gift that you can give to a young person is yourself."
-
"I have been in the education and youth serving arena for a number of years...
I have to be honest in saying that the fellowship has been the most meaningful
experience I have ever had as a youth progesssional. We entered the fellowship
as colleagues but became a family."
-
"I have grown personally and professionally as a result of being in the
fellwoship program... I am more able to deal with difficult situations."
-
"I feel honored to have been a part of this fellowship; I have gained new
leadership skills, formed strong partnerships, and have a better understanding
of how to effectively work with youth. I think
above all I will walk away with richer resources, including the connection to
other fellows, coaches, and the greater community."
-
"I think constantly focusing on what the kids are doing right instead of what
needs to be fixed has made a huge difference in how I interact with the kids on
a daily basis. Much of our paperwork, curriculum, and how much participation
and ownership we share with the kids has all been improved. We were doing bits
and pieces of resiliency, but really needed the overarching structure or
unifying philosophy of resiliency to bring it all together."
-
"It was great to have a sounding board, someone to help me think out of the box
and another voice helping to shape the plan. My coach's rich experience
enhanced our conversations; his knowledge and connection to the community
offered me different avenues and understanding of the youth development network
and culture."
-
"I really valued the coaching experience and it helped me to begin thinking strategically
about my own career and where we are headed as an organization."
-
"This has been a tremendously positive experience. It is not the kind of
workshop experience where momentum is lost the minute you walk out the door.
The knowledge and skills learned will stay with me. I have made significant
changes to our program structurally and how we, as adults, work with youth on a
day-to-day basis. I would recommend this Fellowship experience to anyone who
works with youth."
-
"The fellowship was an incredible, worthwhile experience that has changed me as a
supervisor, as a mentor and as a person. I met wonderful people that I won't
soon forget. I appreciate the time and hard work that all program staff put in
to make it a successful cohort experience."
