In January 2008, The Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations in partnership with Community Wealth Ventures Inc. (CWV), a national social enterprise consulting firm, launched the Cleveland Community Wealth Initiative to increase the impact of nonprofit organizations' missions, goals, and financial self-sufficiency through income-generating business ventures. The Initiative will build upon the Mandel Center's track record of preparing current leaders to transform their agencies into high performing and successful organizations.

  The Cleveland Community Wealth Initiative was featured on WCPN's The Sound of Ideas on Monday, June 30th. The program, Nonprofits Meet the Market, began with an explanation of the United Way's new funding allocation process, but also included a discussion of social enterprise. Amy McClellan, co-project director of the Cleveland Community Wealth Initiative at the Mandel Center, participated in the discussion about how social enterprise is a viable approach to advancing and sustaining mission-related work. Also on this panel were K. Michael Benz, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cleveland; Pat Nobili, Executive Director of Achievement Centers for Children; and Heather Peeler, Managing Director of Community Wealth Ventures, Inc.
