MANDEL CENTER ORIENTATION - FALL 2009

A Welcome Letter from John Yankey

I am writing to welcome you as a student to the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations' graduate programs.

This is a time of great challenge and opportunity for nonprofit organizations and the professionals engaged in leading them. Now more than ever, our sector is called upon to address the most pressing civic issues. Concerned citizens, elected officials and community leaders have high expectations of the services delivered by nonprofits. They also expect nonprofit organizations and their leaders to reflect the highest ethical standards and to be transparent and accountable.

Through its graduate programs, the Mandel Center works with students to develop and enhance the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and manage nonprofit organizations effectively and ethically. You will find that our courses link theory and practice so that when you graduate you will not only have an excellent grasp of effective practices and their conceptual underpinnings, but some experience in applying these practices in real world settings. Our faculty members have high expectations of you and strive to assist you in reaching your full potential as a student and a professional. Both Mandel Center faculty and staff are actively engaged in creating a multi-faceted learning environment that will be intellectually and personally rewarding for our students.

During orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow students, faculty and staff; to learn about the many dimensions of the Mandel Center's multidisciplinary environment; and to acquire important knowledge and information to facilitate your entry into our learning community. Students are required to attend orientation on Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19. The Center will also hold a reception on the evening of Thursday, August 20.

Information regarding registration and orientation, as well as other information that will be helpful as you begin your graduate work at Case, is available here. Please review these materials at your earliest convenience as there are several matters that need to be attended to prior to orientation. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact the appropriate staff members whose contact information is listed with the materials on the website.

The Mandel Center faculty and staff look forward to coming to know you and to supporting your intellectual and personal growth.

Sincerely,

John A. Yankey
Interim Executive Director
