Charles "Mel" Gray has been appointed to a three-year term as the next editor of Nonprofit Management and Leadership.
Dr. Gray is a professor of business economics in the Opus College of Business of the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, where he has taught for nearly 30 years. His scholarly publications, on topics ranging from nonprofit finance to community development to criminal justice, include The Economics of Art and Culture (Cambridge University Press). In addition to having served on the editorial boards of Policy Studies Journal and Policy Studies Review, Dr. Gray is a past-president of the Association for Cultural Economics International and the current secretary of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action's social enterprise/entrepreneurship section. He previously worked as a regional economist with two Federal Reserve Banks, and in other positions devoted to the interpretation of expert research for public and practical uses.
"This editorship just felt like the natural next stage of my career," Dr. Gray said. "I look forward to building on the fine work of my predecessors."
Now in its 19th year of publication, Nonprofit Management and Leadership is a quarterly, refereed journal published by Jossey-Bass/Wiley and sponsored by the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Written for a multidisciplinary audience of both academics and professionals in the nonprofit management field, the journal covers topics related to governance, management of human resources, resource development and financial management, strategy and management of change, and organizational effectiveness.
"Mel's scholarly and professional experience, along with his writing and editing skills, fit well with NML's mission and needs," said Susan L. Eagan, Executive Director of the Mandel Center. "I am confident that he will uphold the journal's role in providing intellectual leadership to the field of nonprofit sector studies."
