SECURITY ALERT

The following incident did not occur on campus and the victim is not affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University, however, because of the proximity, Case Protective Services would like the university community to be aware of the incident.

THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT: 7:50 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Aggravated Robbery

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Cleveland Music School Settlement parking lot, 1562 Mistletoe Drive

INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: A Cleveland Music School Settlement employee was parking her car in the rear lot at the school when she saw an unknown man leave one of the school buildings and walk toward her car. The man came up to the driver's side of the car and began asking questions about the Music School Settlement. The man then pulled out a small, black knife and demanded the woman turn her car over to him. As the woman was getting out of the car, she tried to take her purse with her, but the man demanded that she leave it. The suspect then drove the car out of the parking lot toward Wade Park Avenue. About 20 minutes later, a University Circle police officer spotted the woman's car turning west onto Somerset Avenue. The driver parked the car outside a home in the 10400 block of Somerset, exited the car, threw the leather jacket he was wearing on the ground and fled south on foot. Police detained a woman who was seated in the passenger side of the car after a knife was located on the floor of the vehicle. The woman told police she did not know the man who fled from the car.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: The suspect is described as a black male, 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing 220 pounds. He may have had a beard or mustache and wore his hair in dreadlocks or long, small curls. He also was wearing a brown leather jacket, black shirt, black pants and dark sneakers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Music School Settlement employee was not injured. Her car and personal property, except for $40, were recovered.
