Location of Incident: RTA Rapid Station, 11100 Cedar Avenue

Date of Incident: Friday, June 26, 2009

Time of Incident: Around midnight

Incident Description: A woman, who is not affiliated with Case Western Reserve University, was waiting for a bus when she was approached by an unknown man. The suspect grabbed her and attempted to remove her clothing. The woman told the man she had AIDS, and he fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Suspect Description: The suspect is described as a black man, 34 or 35 years old, 6-feet tall, weighing around 150 pounds. The man has a full beard and was wearing a green shirt under a sleeveless black hoodie, black jogging pants and black and white thong sandals. He may have been armed with a razor or a knife.

Additional Information: RTA police are investigating.

Case Western Reserve Police and Security officers and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles and on foot. 

Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and in areas immediately adjacent to campus. Request an escort anytime, 24 hours a day, by calling 368-3333 or by using emergency phones located throughout campus.

Rather than walking alone, protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/  or the escort service. Jog or bike during daylight and only in areas with which you are familiar. Stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine. Trust your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

Protect your belongings by locking your office or room door every time you leave. Don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended, and keep valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Case Police at 368-3333.
