* This incident occurred off campus and did not involve anyone from the university community, but because of the proximity to campus, Case Police & Security Services would like the campus to be informed.


Type of Incident: Felonious Assault

Location of Incident: Intersection of Euclid Avenue and Ford Road

Date of Incident: Friday, August 8, 2008

Time of Incident: 1:47 a.m.

Incident Description: While on patrol, a Case Western Reserve police officer was advised by a pedestrian that a man had just pulled a shotgun out of a black bag and pointed it at her. After a brief pursuit, the man, who was still in the area, was detained at the intersection of Hessler Street and Ford Road. A black duffel bag containing a shotgun was located nearby, and Case Western Reserve and University Circle police officers arrested two additional men in relation to this incident.

Additional Information: No one was injured during this incident. If any other people have experienced a similar incident, they are asked to contact Case Western Reserve police at 368-3333 as soon as possible.

Case Western Reserve Police and Security officers and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles and on foot. 

 
Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and in areas immediately adjacent to campus. Request an escort anytime, 24 hours a day, by calling 368-3333 or by using emergency phones located throughout campus.

Rather than walking alone, protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/   or the escort service. Jog or bike during daylight and only in areas with which you are familiar. Stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine. Trust your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

 
Protect your belongings by locking your office or room door every time you leave. Don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended, and keep valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Case Police at 368-3333.
