SECURITY ALERT  

 

Case Western Reserve University Police and Security Services 

 

*This incident does not involve a student or faculty or staff member, but because of the location, Case Police and Security Services want to inform the campus community.

 

  

Location of Incident: 1600 block of East 118th Street south of Wade Park

 

Date of Incident: December 8, 2008

 

Time of Incident: 9:30 p.m.

 

Incident Description: While standing outside his house in the 1600 block of East 118th Street, a man was approached by three unknown suspects, all carrying handguns. The suspects held the man at gunpoint and took his cell phone, then fled north.

 

Suspect Descriptions: The three suspects are described as black males, all in their teens, with thin to medium builds. Two were dressed in all black clothing, while the third wore a gray hooded sweatshirt with a black coat and black pants.

 

Additional Information: The man was not injured. Case Police apprehended one of the suspects, a teenager, following the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Case Western Reserve Police and Security officers and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles and on foot.  

 

Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and in areas immediately adjacent to campus. Request an escort anytime, 24 hours a day, by calling 368-3333 or by using emergency phones located throughout campus.

 

Rather than walking alone, protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/  or the escort service. Jog or bike during daylight and only in areas with which you are familiar. Stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine. Trust your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

 

Protect your belongings by locking your office or room door every time you leave. Don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended, and keep valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Case Police at 368-3333.
