Ernest Green

Born in Little Rock, Ark., September 22, 1941, Ernest Green earned his high school diploma from Little Rock Central High School. He and eight other black students were the first to integrate Central High following the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that declared segregation illegal. The group would later become known as the "Little Rock Nine." Learn more.

Case Western Reserve University is planning a weeklong celebration around the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in January, 2008. Schools, academic departments and student organizations have prepared a variety of programs and activities to honor the memory and spirit of Dr. King throughout the week of January 21, 2008.

This weeklong celebration will include a variety of workshops, films, discussions, and speakers sponsored by various academic departments and schools, centers, offices, and student organizations.

The annual MLK Convocation, featuring Ernest Green of the "Little Rock Nine," will be held Friday January 18, 2008 in Amasa Stone Chapel.

We hope that all members of the local and Case community will join us as we recognize and celebrate Dr. King's commitment to social justice and global peace.
