What? Why? When? Where?

What is Matlab Frisbee?

Imagine, if you will, a disc of blue, squishy foam, emblazoned with the elegant tracings of Mathworks, Inc.'s Matlab, a promotional item filled with endless hours of entertainment and procrastination.

Imagine, if you will, a reason to go on, a small pleasure which makes life worth living and work worth working...

Imagine, if you will, a hobby, a past-time...a way of life.

Imagine, if you will, something dreadfully amusing to throw at your co-workers.

Matlab Frisbee is all of this and more!

Why Matlab Frisbee?

Cliff Stoll has his yo-yo, we DMS minions and lackeys have our Matlab Frisbee. Matlab Frisbee clears the mind, freshens the senses, hones the intellect to a rapier-sharp, deadly point. Plus, it's really satisfying to bounce off of somone's head while they're engrossed in actual productive work.

When is Matlab Frisbee?

Truly, any time is time for Matlab Frisbee, but there are some particular times when the degree of Matlab Frisbee activity is extremely high. The ten minutes prior to lunch tend to run the risk of Matlab Frisbee flight, as do the random moments while progress bars thrash across our screens. But most notable is the end of the four o'clock hour, those fifteen minutes at the end of the day between the cessation of all useful work and when we're actually sick enough of life to simply leave.

Where is Matlab Frisbee?

Matlab Frisbee really gets around! Of course, if you were as squishy and fun to throw, you'd get around a lot too. When it's not swooshing through the air, Matlab Frisbee usually rests atop the mighty PowerMac 6500 known as Escaflowne, flops lazily across the scanner, or perches elegantly on a DMS lackey's monitor. Sometimes it's in motion...and other times it's lost behind Bzort!, or under a table. (Though this is less likely to happen now that Bill is gone. Sob!)

Sadly enough, Matlab Frisbee is beginning to show signs of its age. It has shed much of its white lettering in recent months. To preserve Matlab Frisbee for future generations of DMS lackeys, it has now taken to living in Eric's office where it will not be disturbed by our hooting and scampering. And though we now toss different frisbees, its memory will always be treasured...
