Alumnus & Student raise money for NYC

David Spencer, a CWRU Alumnus and employee, and Tara Rasch, a student at the Case School of Engineering, were chosen as winners in a lottery to run the New York City Marathon.

The New York Runners' Club, which is sponsoring the marathon, is trying to raise $1 million dollars for the Twin Towers Fund, a united and coordinated effort to assist victims of the September 11 disaster and their families and the families of the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, and Port Authority police involved in the rescue and recovery effort. For updated information on the NYC Marathon, please check out the web site http://www.nycmarathon.org.

David and Tara are challenging the entire CWRU community: students, faculty, staff, and alumni, to help in their fundraising effort to raise $10,000 for this cause.

I have attached a detailed account that David forwarded to me that will explain more about Tara's experience in New York City on the day of the disaster and the story of how they became involved in the marathon and made their decision to raise funds from the CWRU community.

To make a donation, please make a check or money order payable to "Twin Towers Fund".

Send your donation via US Postal Service to:

This information will also be provided in campus newspapers and David and Tara will keep the CWRU community updated on the amount raised. If you have been looking for a way to help out the victims of this tragedy, this is your opportunity to do so and to reach out in service to others, as a member of the CWRU community.

Thank you.
