Our curriculum reflects the idea that chemical engineers apply a common core of knowledge to a broad range of applications: Each student takes a common set of math, science, engineering and communications courses, and focuses on his or her interests through a series of twelve elective courses. These requirements are listed below, and course descriptions and schedules can be obtained here. A typical program of study, which shows the courses taken each semester, can be viewed here.
Through the elective courses, students can complete our Biochemical Engineering Concentration or satisfy premedical requirements for medical school admission.

| SAGES Electives: Two SAGES university seminar courses are required. |
Biochemical Engineering Concentration
For the Biochemical Engineering Concentration, the students take the Biochemical Engineering Breadth Sequence, and replace the Science and Materials Electives by BIOL 300 Dynamics of Biological Systems; BIOL 301 Biotechnology Lab; and two of the following: BIOL 334 Proteins and Enzymes, BIOL 382 Drugs, Brain & Behavior, BIOC 308 Genes & Genetic Engineering, EVHS 401B/402B Biochemical Toxicology. Note one additional course must be taken for the Biochemical Engineering Concentration.
To faciliate scheduling, it is suggested that ENGR 210 and BIOL 300 be taken in the Sophomore Spring semester, BIOC 307 in the Junior Fall semester, BIOL 343 in the Junior Spring semester, and BIOL 301 in the Senior Fall semester.
Premedical Study
To satisfy prerequisites for medical school, students take the Pre-Medical Breadth Sequence, CHEM 224/234 and CHEM 336 as Science Electives, and substitute CHEM 233 for CHEM 290.
To faciliate scheduling, it is suggested that CHEM 224/324 be taken in the Sophmore spring semester, CHEM 336 be taken in the Senior Spring semester, and ENGR 131 be moved to sophomore year or later.
