March 1: commencement registration begins

All University and College Program students planning to participate in their diploma ceremony are required to attend convocation.

Commencement ceremony participation registration ends on April 1, 2013 at 5 p.m. EDT. Register now for commencement.

Mandatory Class Meeting, School of Medicine, E401

This meeting will serve as a rehearsal for commencement, and all MD graduates are expected to attend. Deans, as well as representatives from the Alumni Office and Special Events will be present to provide direction and answer questions. A great kick-off to a memorable weekend.

4:30-5:30 p.m.


Reception, Biomedical Research Building Lobby

The School of Medicine dean and faculty host a wine and appetizer reception for 2013 MD and PhD graduates. Families are welcome to attend.

Saturday, May 18

2-3:30 p.m.

Awards Ceremony, Strosacker Auditorium

School of Medicine honors, awards and prizes will be presented, along with class memorabilia. All graduates and their families are encouraged to attend the ceremony and reception. Award winners will be notified in advance by the Office of Student Affairs.

3:30-4:15 p.m.

commencement day, Sunday, May 19

7:30 a.m.

Commencement Ceremony Breakfast: Biomedical Research Building Lobby and Cafeteria





Breakfast for graduates, their families and friends. This is the SOM and CCLCM convocation robing and line up location (graduates). 
A class photo will be taken of all graduates in full academic regalia on the steps of the BRB before processing to convocation.

9:30 a.m.

University Convocation: Veale Center


This is a ticketed event for guests. Graduates must participate in convocation in order to participate in the School of Medicine diploma ceremony at Severance Hall. The ceremony will be shown on large screens in Ford Auditorium at the corner of Euclid and Adelbert for guests not able to secure convocation tickets. At the conclusion of the convocation ceremony, graduates will remain in procession formation while exiting Veale and will be joined by faculty to process down Adelbert Road to Severance Hall. The procession will be led by our bagpiper and should make for a great photo opportunity for your family.

10:45 a.m.

11:15 a.m.

Diploma Ceremony: Severance Hall

Speaker: Arthur Rubenstein, MBBCh, previous executive vice president of University of Pennsylvania Health System and dean of the Perelman School of Medicine (Penn Medicine)

Reception: School of Medicine BioMedical Research Building Cafeteria and Lobby

All commencement attendees, family and friends are welcome to attend.

Following Commencement, Rental Cap and Gown Drop Off Location: University Bookstore, at E. 115 and Euclid.
