The Weatherhead School of Management Office of Career Planning and Placement is located in Enterprise Hall. This office assists M.B.A., Master of Accountancy, Master of Nonprofit Organizations, and Management Science students in focusing their career plans and developing career opportunities. Resources and activities of the Office of Career Planning and Placement include:
Individual Counseling: Career counseling is available to full-time and evening students and covers all aspects of the job search, from definition of career objectives to interview techniques.
Career Resource Center: A reference and study space adjacent to M.B.A. classrooms, this area contains books, periodicals, and employer files with information specifically related to placement of M.B.A. students and alumni.
Job Listings: Posted in the Career Resource Center and M.B.A. student lounge, these listings include full-time, part-time, and summer opportunities for M.B.A. students and alumni.
Recruiter Receptions: Students and corporate representatives meet in informal settings to discuss career opportunities and specific issues concerning graduate and summer employment with each particular employer. These receptions are an effective tool for M.B.A. networking and recruiting.
Summer Internships: The Weatherhead School of Management assists students in developing opportunities which combine educational experience with on-site employment in a wide array of functional areas and industries.
M.B.A. Career Days: Held once or twice a year, Career Day brings representatives of regional and national corporations to campus to meet with faculty and students to "get acquainted" with the academic programs and potential management talent at the school. Students meet with corporate representatives at the M.B.A. job fair, and the recruiters use these visits as a basis for selecting students for interviews.
On-Campus Recruiting: Every year, corporate representatives interview M.B.A., Master of Accountancy and Master of Science graduates in the Office of Career Planning and Placement. Meeting key faculty and receiving additional information on each student are just two examples of the personalized service recruiters receive when visiting the Weatherhead School.
Workshops and Seminars: "How-to" workshops, covering such topics as resume writing, job search tactics, business etiquette and interviewing, are scheduled throughout the year for full-time and evening students.
Resume Books: The M.B.A. Graduate Resume Book is mailed annually to more than 200 employers across the country. A summer employment resume book is mailed to more than 200 companies to assist students in getting summer internships. These books serve the dual purpose of encouraging employers to hire Weatherhead graduates while attracting them to recruit on campus if they are not already doing so.
Alumni Network: The Weatherhead Office of Career Planning and Placement has identified a network of alumni in the greater Cleveland area as well as in several major cities who are available to answer students' questions about careers in specific fields and to assist students in their job search.
M.B.A. Mentor Program: Interested first- and second-year students may request a mentor from the business community or a graduate of the program who will provide advice on career opportunities and relevant course work. Mentors also share their own work experiences by inviting students to their place of employment.
