Weatherhead Student Organizations
The GSA was formed by the M.B.A. students to serve as a liaison between students, faculty and staff on issues pertaining to student life. The organization's primary focus is to enhance each student's M.B.A. experience in the areas of professional development, academic achievement and community involvement. GSA acts as the nucleus of student activities by coordinating the Council of Club Presidents, allocating resources to the clubs, organizing student social activities and operating the school Coffee Bar.
The Black M.B.A. Student Association is designed to provide business, academic and social support for African-American students at the Weatherhead School of Management through sponsored seminars and forums, academic assistance and social activities.
Organized in 1990, COCP was formed to integrate all Weatherhead clubs through the participation of club presidents and officers. The council works closely with the GSA to provide coordinated services and to maintain communication among the clubs. These relationships have resulted in co-sponsorship of speakers and social events, as well as the provision of one club's services to other clubs.
The purpose of the E-Club and its activities is to develop entrepreneurial attitudes through contacts with those who have succeeded, as well as failed, in their undertakings, and to foster the attitudes, learn the strategies and develop the skills to help Weatherhead students compete in the marketplace. The club hosts speakers, organizes workshops and works to establish contacts with Cleveland's other universities so that Weatherhead students can better feel the reality of business. Students are encouraged to propose business ventures that could be undertaken by the club.
The Finance Club sponsors seminars and informal lectures to introduce students interested in banking and finance to new career opportunities in these fields and to innovative concepts in both corporate and personal financial planning. The club also hosts guest speakers from the local financial community.
The HSMA was designed to bring in speakers and maintain contact with professionals from various sectors of the health care system. The club also helps students interested in careers in health care to learn about the many available career options through seminars, tours of health care facilities and informal meetings with faculty from the Health Systems Management Center. The HSMA also encourages participation in professional health care associations such as the Medical Group Management Association and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
The Human Resource and Labor Relations Club is composed of M.B.A. students having a special interest in human resource management, labor relations and/or organizational development. Affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the club provides excellent opportunities to meet human resource professionals on both an educational and social basis, and thus broadens members' exposure to human resource issues and problems at the practical as well as academic levels. Membership in SHRM includes a monthly copy of HRMagazine and HRNews.
The goal of the International Business Group is to prepare its members for an awareness of an interdependent world of economy. The group provides a forum for the informal exchange of international business ideas and the promotion of cross-cultural awareness. Among other things, activities include topical forums, speakers, parties and field trips. The International Business Group also serves as a source of information for students - both members and non-members - about international career opportunities in the United States and abroad.
The Marketing Club brings members of the business community to campus to speak about a wide variety of marketing issues and career paths available to marketing students. The club offers students opportunities for experience in promotion and public relations by serving as the publicity vehicle for club events throughout the school. By getting involved in the monthly newsletter, students can also polish writing skills and learn about current marketing, sales, advertising and marketing research issues. In addition to these activities, the club manages T-shirt sales for the GSA encourages community outreach via participation in Junior Achievement, and urges members to join organizations such as the American Marketing Association and Sales and Marketing Executives International in order to build a network of professional contacts.
The MIS Club was conceived to keep MIS majors up to date with career opportunities in information systems management and to direct the energies of those involved with management information and decision systems to anticipate future management needs in the area.
The OPMT Club is an organization of students who have an interest in planning, control, procurement, production and distribution functions. Club objectives are accomplished through several means, including witnessing first-hand application of current operation practices, establishing relationships with faculty and professionals working in industry, and coordination of events and activities with professional organizations.

The professional chapter of this organization at the Weatherhead School of Management offers students a variety of academic and social activities and provides a direct link to individuals with careers in the profession. The chapter serves to provide information to students on the professional characteristics and practice of operations research as a field of applied science in management.
Weatherhead Student Consultants (WSC) work with local businesses to help them solve marketing, financial, operational and other management problems. Project teams are assigned to particular jobs based on interest, experience and availability, and consultants are paid for hours worked upon completion of a project. In most cases, a team leader is assigned for each project. Working with WSC is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and get involved in the local business community.
Members of the Weatherhead School of Management Alumni Association include all alumni of the Weatherhead School's graduate and professional programs. The Association works to promote the welfare and advance the objectives of the school and sponsors a range of activities and services for alumni and students which encourage professional development, provide for the exchange of ideas and stimulate social interaction. Each year, the Association selects a graduating student to receive the Student Leadership Award and an incoming M.B.A. student to receive the WSOM Alumni Association scholarship. Distinguished Alum and Alum of the Year awards are given periodically. In addition to a very active Weatherhead School Alumni Association, numerous Case Western Reserve University alumni chapters throughout the country are open to all CWRU graduates.
Beta Gamma Sigma is a national scholarship honorary society in the field of business administration and commerce. M.B.A. candidates whose academic performance is outstanding (usually in the top 20% of the graduating class) may be elected to membership in the Eta Chapter of Ohio, which was established at Case Western Reserve University in 1958.
Beta Alpha Psi is a national professional honorary accountancy fraternity. The Weatherhead School of Management is home to the Pi Chapter, which was chartered in 1930. The organization's primary purpose is to encourage higher standards in accountancy education and to develop a closer relationship among professional accountants, faculty and students.
Omega Rho is an international honor society founded in 1975 to honor academic excellence in operations research and closely allied intellectual disciplines. As a founding chapter of Omega Rho, the Case Western Reserve University unit recommends membership for students who have achieved high honors in the graduate program in operations research. The Department of Operations Research initiates chapter members annually.
The mission of the Weatherhead School of Management Teaching Excellence Award is to annually recognize a professor, chosen by students, who exemplifies excellence in teaching.
Each May, an award for teaching excellence is presented at the Weatherhead School of Management dipoloma ceremony. The Teaching Excellence Award Committee is composed of student representatives from the undergraduate and graduate accounting, management, operations research, organizational behavior and nonprofit management degree programs, and the previous year's winner (who is ineligible to receive the award the following year) and Registrar as ex officio members. This committee administers the voting procedure and determines the winner from nominations received by students. The award is presented by a student member of the Teaching Excellence Award Committee.
The Student Leadership Award is presented each year at commencement to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership characteristics by providing a model for other students, enhancing student life and atmosphere, promoting the Weatherhead image in a positive way and contributing to the total community. The recipient of this Award is chosen by a selection committee comprising alumni representatives of all Weatherhead programs. Nominations may be made by students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Weatherhead School.
