M.B.A. Admission

Note: For information regarding admission to other graduate and undergraduate programs, see the individual program descriptions.

Admission Requirements

Graduate credit toward the M.B.A. degree will be granted only to students who have been admitted to the Weatherhead School of Management. Candidates with acceptable records from fully-accredited universities and colleges and with acceptable scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) will be considered for admission to the M.B.A. degree program. Although no prerequisite courses in business or management are required, students are expected to have a fundamental understanding of basic mathematics.

The Admissions Committee attempts to evaluate each applicant's ability to complete a program successfully, based on previously demonstrated academic performance and level of motivation. Careful consideration is given to such subjective factors as application essays and professional work experience as well as the more objective factors of undergraduate grades and GMAT scores. Whenever possible, candidates for admission to the full-time M.B.A. program must arrange with the M.B.A. Office for a personal interview.

Applicants should submit the following items to the M.B.A. Admissions Office by the deadlines indicated under "Application Dates"; a completed application accompanied by a $35 non-refundable application fee; an official transcript from each college or university attended; an official report of the GMAT; two recommendations; and an official report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose previous college work was completed in non-English speaking countries. (See "Information for Applicants from Other Countries" below for full details.) Applications submitted after the deadline will be acted upon based on the availability of space.

Candidates may obtain detailed information about GMAT dates, registration and score reporting by writing directly to:

Joint Degree Programs

Applicants to joint degree programs must meet all of the admission requirements of each school. These applicants should write to the admissions offices of each school for bulletins and application forms, and should indicate on both applications that they are applying for a particular joint degree program (i.e., J.D./M.B.A., M.S.M.S./M.B.A., M.S.N./M.B.A.). Separate application fees are charged by each school.

J.D./M.B.A. candidates must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) as well as the GMAT. The results of the LSAT are sent to the School of Law and the results of the GMAT are sent to the School of Management. Information about the LSAT may be obtained from the School of Law or by writing to:

Law School Admission Services
Box 2000
Newton, Pennsylvania 18940

An applicant who has taken one of the two tests and who has been admitted to one of the two schools may be admitted to the other school and to the joint program only after receipt of the other test results and a completed application to the other school.

Information for Applicants from Other Countries

Only those foreign applicants who have an undergraduate education equivalent to that required for a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States will be considered for admission to the Weatherhead School of Management. Candidates with a three-year bachelor's degree will not be considered for admission unless they show evidence of an additional advanced degree or two years of post-graduate work experience. The school requires foreign applicants to submit results of the GMAT and the TOEFL, both of which are administered four times a year at testing centers throughout the world. Application forms and information bulletins can be obtained by writing to:

GMAT or TOEFL

Students from other countries should be prepared to meet expenses by arranging financing of their entire graduate course of study before leaving home. The Weatherhead School of Management does not offer financial assistance to students from other countries. Please note that regulations of the United States Immigration Service prohibit foreign students who enter the United States on student visas from obtaining employment during their first year in this country.
