Case Defeats NYU, 1-0, to Stay Undefeated in UAA Play

CLEVELAND, OH (October 10, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated New York University, 1-0, in Staten Island, NY.

With the win, Case Western Reserve moves to 7-3-2 overall and 2-0 in UAA play, while NYU is now 8-4 overall and 0-2 in the UAA. The Spartans have won three straight games.

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans struck late in the second half when freshman midfielder Deena Levey (Columbus, OH ~ pictured) scored off an assist by senior forward Kaitlyn Yule (Raleigh, NC) at the 82:16 mark.

The Violets won the battle of shots, 14-6, and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks, but the Spartans made the most of their chances.

In goal, sophomore Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL) made five saves for her fourth straight shutout since taking over starting goalie duties. This is the first time since at least 2003 that the Spartans have shutout their opponent in four straight games.

Case Western Reserve is in action next when it travels to face UAA foe Washington University on Friday, October 16, at 9:00 p.m.
