Case Defeats Brandeis, 1-0, for first uaa win since '06

CLEVELAND, OH (October 3, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated Brandeis University, 1-0, at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio. It was the Spartans first win in University Athletic Association play in 19 games, dating back to 2006.

With the win, Case Western Reserve moves to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0 in UAA play, while Brandeis is now also 5-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the UAA.

After a scoreless first half, senior midfielder Caroline Garber (Cincinnati, OH ~pictured) scored in the 55th minute off a feed from junior forward Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI). The Spartans defense held off several Brandeis attacks in the second half to perserve the winning margin.

The Judges won the battle of shots, 14-4, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, but Case Western made the most of their chances.

In goal, sophomore Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL) made five saves.

Case Western Reserve is in action next when it travels to face Hiram College on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:45 p.m..
