Case Defeats John carroll, 3-1, with Second Half Surge
CLEVELAND, OH (September 12, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated John Carroll University, 3-1, on day two of the John Carroll University Classic in University Heights, Ohio.
With its victory, Case Western Reserve moved to 3-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the tournament while John Carroll fell to 1-3-1 overall with the loss.
JCU took a 1-0 lead into halftime on the strength of a Caroline McGraw at the 37:12 mark. The Spartans tied the game at 51:12 when junior forward Ann Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI ~pictured) scored her third goal of the year. Sophomore midfielder Alexandra Litofsky (Columbia, MO) gave Case Western Reserve a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute off feeds from senior forward Kaitlyn Yule (Raleigh, NC) and junior midfielder Amy Baumann (Dublin, OH). Yule capped off the scoring four minutes later, capitalizing on a pass from freshman midfielder Deena Levey (Columbus, OH).
Case won the battle of shots, 10-7, and corner kicks, 7-1.
In goal, sophomore Jackie Guttman (Eden Prairie, MN) made two saves while recording her first shutout of the season.
The Spartans are in action on Friday, September 18th, when they host The College of Mount Saint Joseph's. The tilt kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
