Case and Buffalo St play to 1-1 tie on Day one of Case Classic
CLEVELAND, OH (September 5, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team tied Buffalo State University, 1-1, on day one of the Case Western Reserve Classic at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans scored their goal at the 39:47 mark when junior forward Ann Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI ~ pictured) connected on a penality kick. Buffalo St. tied the game at 1-1 at 82:38 on a 25-yard boot by Melissa Mahoney. The teams played two overtime periods, but neither could break through for a game-winning goal. Case 's best look came with 1:26 remaining in double overtime when a penality junior midfielder Amy Baumann (Dublin, OH) was saved.
Case and Buffalo St. both took 11 shots in the contest.
In goal, sophomore Jackie Guttman played all 110 minutes and made two saves.
The Spartans are in action tomorrow,, September 6th, when they face Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m in day two of the Case Classic..
