Case falls to Division II Ashland, 2-1, in Season Opener
CLEVELAND, OH (September 1, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team lost against NCAA Division II Ashland University, 2-1, in the first game of the 2009 season at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles kicked off the scoring in the 46th minute when Chelsea Hyatt scored from 25 yards out. Ashland would extend its lead to 2-0 at the 56:56 mark when Kelly Usher scored off of a Jamie Greene free kick. Case got on the board at 78:06 when senior midfield Caroline Garber (Cincinnati, OH ~ pictured) scored off an assist by sophomore defender Laura Gabster (Mount Laurel, NJ).
Case won the battle of shots,11-3, but were unable to capitalize on the advantage.
The Spartans are in action next this weekend, September 5th and 6th, when they participate host the Case Western Reserve Classic at Case Field. Case will face Buffalo State University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.and Muskingum College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
