[Scene 9] Mee Lan tells her father that everything is untrue, nothing but theater; that she does no longer love the heroic prince, but Min Ko. Hwang Ti tells her that Min Ko has been arrested because he did not "roar with joy" as others did when they saw the emperor. Instead, he "gaped." His action was immediately considered Min Ko's open defiance of the emperor and was arrested. Hwang Ti decides to have him tortured until he confesses.
