Maryland Early Mathematics Placement Test
(MARY/EMPT), 1986-1998
MARY/EMPT: a program of the 2- and
4-year private and public colleges of the State of Maryland, funded by the
Maryland Higher Education
Commission (MHEC) to inform high-school
students of their progress towards college-level mathematics. The
program offers to juniors and other students, through their schools, a
practice mathematics placement test, by which individual feedback is
given to the students. During 1994-98, about to 50,000 students in over 100
schools in the State of Maryland participated. This program and its director
have been awarded:
- National Science Foundation Certificate for Local Outreach
(1993),
- University of Maryland Presidental Award for Outstanding Service to
Schools (1993),
- Maryland Association for Higher Education Award for
Distinguished Program (1997).
