Assistant Professor, Tenure-track in Modern China , Department of History

MODERN CHINA. The Department of History at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the field of modern Chinese history (1644-present). Strong commitment to research and publication and demonstrated teaching excellence are essential. Teaching load is two courses per semester. LATINO/CHICANO HISTORY. As part of an exciting, new university strategic initiative in Social Justice, Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the field of Latino/Chicano History, 19 th or 20 th century, specialization open. Assistant professor preferred, associate professor considered. Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand or have met all requirements for a Ph.D. by August 2009. For assistant professors a record of scholarly activity and the potential to advance in a field of research is required. Senior applicants must have an established record of excellence in research. Rank commensurate with experience and achievement. Strong commitment to issues of diversity and social justice are essential.

The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of History with a 2-2 teaching load, and will be the first of at least five new anticipated hires through the Social Justice initiative over the next several years in the College of Arts and Sciences. The newly launched Social Justice initiative reflects CWRU's and the College's commitment to understanding inequality and social change, and creating a learning culture that links research, scholarship, and teaching to real-world issues.
