About the Project
I decided to annotate the first two Cantos after encountering Pound's work in the fall semester of 2006. Because Pound filled the Cantos with a variety of allusions, the poem may be difficult to understand, particularly without a strong background in classical literature. I have drawn on the work of four scholars to create a hypertextual annotation in order to make the first two Cantos more comprehensible to modern readers. I used texts by William Cookson, John Hamilton Edwards and William W. Vasse, George Kearns, and Carroll F. Terrell. The 1970 New Directions printing of the Cantos serves as the source poem. Please refer to my Works Cited page for a complete MLA citation of all references. All images are public domain unless otherwise noted.
