Gabriela Copertari's areas of specialization are contemporary Latin American culture, literature, and film. After receiving her “licenciatura's” degree in Literature from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1995, she came to the United States to pursue doctoral studies at Georgetown University, where she specialized in Latin American literature, film, and cultural studies. Her doctoral dissertation studies transnational social imaginaries in Argentine film of the 1990s. At Georgetown University she was also teaching Spanish language and Latin American literature courses. She has presented papers at national and international conferences on film and on several areas of Latin American literature such as Mexican and Caribbean literature, women's writing, and modernista novel. She has also published essays on contemporary Southern Cone's literature in Argentina and in the United States.
