Street Law Program
The Street Law Organization is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works with area high school students, facilitating education and understanding of criminal law and basic constitutional rights in a high school classroom setting. The Street Law program is returning to Case Law this year after many years of inactivity. We are very excited about the re-launch of Street Law and are seeking diverse, dedicated volunteers who want to help area teens understand various aspects of criminal and constitutional law as they relate to their everyday lives.
This fall semester, our student volunteers will be partnered with an already established Street Law program in a local high school, where student volunteers will gain classroom experience and knowledge of the Street Law curriculum. A major component of the educational experience will focus on real-life situations, and knowing your rights when it comes to dealing with law enforcement officials and the juvenile court system. Beginning in the spring semester, we would like to facilitate an innovative teaching program in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court's juvenile detention center, where the Street Law Organization's student volunteers will educate detained juveniles about their basic constitutional rights and how to make lawful decisions in the future. The ultimate goal of the juvenile detention center program is to help as many detained juveniles as possible avoid relapses into the juvenile justice system because of a lack of knowledge of their rights.
