We’ll be introduced to the Beaufort Wind Scale and the Fujita Tornado Scale. (By the way, did you know that the number one killer related to weather is HEAT!!!) Participants will have a preview of the latest JASON curriculum, Monster Storms, expected to roll out in January, 2007.
  • Social Studies and Science: August 10, 2006, 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

  • Drawing from our many scientific expeditions with the JASON Project, we’ll explore the important links between social studies and science. Barro Colorado Island once was a hill, for example. What happened to the people and what did they know about the region before they were displaced by Lake Gatun? There were notable medical advances because of the construction of the Panama Canal. Those disappearing wetlands of Louisiana were not just the result of monster storms. It’s much more sinister than that!
