Our Mission

The Center for Science and Mathematics Education in the College of Arts and Sciences serves as a clearinghouse for the wide variety of pre-college programs at Case, as a coordinating body for outstanding programs housed at the university, and as a catalyst for the development of new and innovative partnerships.

The Center serves its university and K-12 constituencies by:

  •
  • Coordinating exemplary education programs such as the JASON Expedition, the Northeast Ohio Regional Science Olympiad, and the High School Summer Research Program.

  •
  • Serving as the university home for the Cleveland Mathematics and Science Partnership, an NSF-funded collaboration with the Cleveland Municipal School District, John Carroll University, Cleveland State University, and EDC.

  •
  • Providing the primary source of contact between the university and the Cleveland Municipal School District

  •
  • Providing logistical and recruiting support for the diverse array of outreach programs on campus, with a particular emphasis on professional development in math and science.

  •
  • Working with faculty and staff in all eight schools at the university in the development and implementation of new initiatives.

  •
  • Taking a leading role in local and state-wide educational reform by serving on committees such as the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Education Advisory Board, the Cleveland District Standards Leadership Committee, the Ohio Technology Congress, University Circle Interactive Cleveland, and the Ohio Citizens for Science.
