FALL 2008
WRITING CREATIVE NON-FICTION
We all have the seeds of personal essays and memoir stored inside waiting for a chance to grow on the page. The book Writing the World by Bret Anthony Johnston, contains exercises that help shape life experience into nonfiction writing. We will supplement this book of writing prompts with a collection of familiar essays by Anne Fadiman, At Large and At Small, which will be available for purchase at the first class. Class members read their work in class, giving and receiving helpful feedback.

POETRY WORKSHOP
Writer Ray McGinnis believes "poetry involves listening to one's feeling, to one's heart. It involves observing both what is happening within and without. It requires being present to our own lives and to life around us." Writing poetry encourages us to pay attention to inner and outer worlds and to share our discoveries with a supportive group. Bring 18 copies of a poem to the first class. Newcomers are welcome.
