Humanities Week at CWRU

September 18-22, 2000

Humanities Week brings together a variety of activities to celebrate and promote the humanistic disciplines on the CWRU campus - Classics, English, History, Philosophy, Modern Languages & Literature, Religion, Music, Art History & Art, and Theater. Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to participate in the following programs and special events.

Monday, September 18

5:30 p.m. Live Figures Chess Game, Faculty vs. Students Field of Battle

Grass Oval in front of Kelvin Smith Library

Tuesday, September 19

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Japanese festival ("omatsuri"), including demonstrations of calligraphy, origami, and martial arts.

4:30 p.m. Reading - Ted Gup discusses researching and writing, and reads from, The Book of Honor

5:30 p.m. Keynote Lecture - "The Costs of Tragedy: Cost-Benefit Analysis and Theories of Justice" Dr. Martha Nussbaum, University of Chicago Law School
