The Department of Anthropology at Case Western Reserve University, a leader in the field of Medical Anthropology, announces an exciting new programmatic emphasis in Medical Anthropology and Global Health that aims to train a new generation of scholars to meet the challenges of our increasingly globalized world. Since the inception of medical anthropology, the world and anthropology have changed. Increasingly, the local is interconnected with the global through the movement and exchange of peoples, cultures, popular ideas and practices, goods and capital, science, technology and ethics.

Eileen Anderson-Fye, assistant professor of anthropology, and Jill Korbin, associate dean and director of the Schubert Center, served as editors of the December edition of Ethos. Congratulations to Professor Beall

Professor Cynthia Beall was honored with the title of Distinguished University Professor at this year’s convocation. Distinguished University Professors are individuals who have made exceptional contributions in the areas of teaching, research, and service. Professor Beall was one of only 7 university professors to receive this honor and the only recipient from the College of Arts and Sciences. For more information on Professor Beall’s accomplishments, see the attached announcement from President Barbara Snyder.

Kathleen Dowdell was selected as one of three recipients to receive the 2011 President's Award for Distinguished Service. This annual award honors up to three staff members whose outstanding contributions to our campus culture have a transformational effect on university colleagues, students, or visitors with whom they come into contact.
