Power Tower
A 100-kilowatt, 156-feet tall wind turbine next to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center is the newest learning lab at the Case School of Engineering. Besides being a proving ground to test and commercialize wind energy-related technologies, the turbine, part of the Ohio Wind Energy and Commercialization (WERC) Center, provides power to the Veale Center. Track the cost savings, wind speed, energy output and environmental equivalent and other information online or watch a time-lapsed video of the construction.

Celebrating a World-Wide Learning Environment
Over the past three years, 19 faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences have developed innovative ways to build international experiences into the education of CWRU undergraduates. Their projects were part of A World-Wide Learning Environment (WLE), an initiative created with the generous support of the McGregor Fund. Using advanced videoconferencing technology, WLE projects have enabled students to interact with scholars and peers in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. For details, visit the WLE website. FPB's Elizabeth Madigan and CWRU Receive Funding for Post-doc Training in Papua New Guinea
Professor of Nursing Elizabeth Madigan, PhD, RN, FAAN is one of the principal investigators for a new, one-year $228,000 grant from the National Institute of Health’s Fogarty International Center and the National Institute of Nursing Research, which will support three post-doctoral trainees in anthropology, epidemiology and nursing from Case Western Reserve University.
"This is an unusual opportunity to fund post-docs fellows for overseas research," Madigan says.

It's All in the Family
Like the Barrymore's, some families are rich with passion, talent, and distinguished careers within the same field. Such was the path for four members of the Schlachter family in the practice of mental health serving children and families. William (Bill) Schlachter grew up in the Bronx in New York City with his younger brother Roy. Bill went off to SASS and graduated in 1952. Before following in his older brother’s footsteps, younger brother Roy married Lillian Glassberg, another New Yorker with the goal of becoming a child and family therapist. The couple went off to Cleveland, and Roy graduated from SASS in 1959. Lillian waited until their three children were of school age, and then she began classes at SASS, graduating in 1976. Their eldest child, Scott, followed in their footsteps, graduating in 1984. Read more.

Professor argues and wins before the U.S. Supreme Court
Adjunct Professor David Mills argued and won Ortiz v. Jordan before the Supreme Court of the United States.
Professor Mills appeared before the Supreme Court on November 1, 2010. Professor Andrew Pollis assisted with the reply brief and was co-counsel at the argument. This was Professor Mills’ first time before the Court and Professor Pollis' second. Read more.

Success at ACG Competition
Student Teams Place 1st and 2nd
Three teams from Weatherhead participated in a day-long merger advisory competition hosted by the Cleveland Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) on January 21. The teams had a week leading up to the competition to prepare analyses of a real-world merger case developed by Houlihan Lokey, a boutique investment banking firm based in Chicago and Los Angeles.
