Dr. Moses Joloba presented the lab’s cost and performance data for its rapid rifampicin-resistance detection studies at a special session of the Stop TB Working Group on New Diagnostics, 1 November 2006, during the 37th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Paris. His manuscript entitled “Introduction of PCR for Identification of MTB complex in Routine Practice” was published in the November issue of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Sam Ogwang spoke on MDR prevalence, Patrick Orikiriza presented RFLP data, and Francis Mumbowa delivered intriguing data on direct susceptibility testing and the nitrate reductase assay at the annual Wellcome Trust meeting. Francis Mumbowa presented a poster, “Comparison of Four Rapid Methods for Screening Sputum Specimens for Rifampicin-resistant Tuberculosis” at the 37th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Paris on 4 November 2006.
